DQ raises funds with Cones & First Responders event
ST. MARYS - A Cones & First Responders event was held Saturday at Dairy Queen in St. Marys. Crystal Fire Department trucks, St. Marys Area Ambulance Company ambulances and St. Marys police vehicles were parked in the parking lot for people to tour. First responders were on hand to answer questions for the people who attended.
Council Jr.: New team, same NCAA goal with Bonnies
ST. BONAVENTURE — While he may be new to the roster, Melvin Council Jr. intends to bring a level of leadership and experience to the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team. A transfer from Wagner, Council spent last season helping the Seahawks claim a Northeast Conference championship, NCAA First Four win over Howard and an NCAA Tournament first-round appearance against North Carolina. Council not only contributed to Wagner’s success, but led the charge. He averaged a team-high 14.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and nearly a block per game. He also averaged 3.5 assists with under two turnovers per game.
St. Marys Minor girls capture Section 1 crown
UNION CITY — The St. Marys Minor League All-Star softball team finished off an undefeated stay in Union City Tuesday evening with a convincing 11-2 victory against Titusville to capture the Section 1 Tournament and return home to host the state tournament on its home fields at Benzinger Park.
Thirteen Receive Gregory D. Spring Perseverance Scholarships
Thirteen recent area graduates have received the Gregory D. Spring Perseverance Scholarship, an annual scholarship managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation. Colton Boser, Gracie Amore, Kevin Edwards-Hardy and Robert Casey, all of Allegany-Limestone Central School, as well as Portville’s Shaela Spring, Hailey Studley and Dayton Shaw all received awards this year.

Indictment unsealed in Erie federal court alleges resident of St. Marys, Elk County, conspired to ship disassembled handguns to Canada with reassembly instructions. OLEAN, NY — Early pitching struggles for the Oilers proved to be too much for Olean's offense to overcome in an 11-7 loss to the Dansville Gliders Tuesday.
