Police believe three suspects were involved in a robbery that turned into a deadly shooting at a Wilson County marina Saturday and are working on leads.

A 27-year-old man was killed outside Cedar Creek Marina, 9120 Saundersville Road, around midnight.

The victim has not been identified due to requests from the family, Wilson County Sheriff's Capt. Scott Moore said. The man was described by police as an "innocent bystander."

Police believe the shooting occurred after an armed robbery, according to the initial investigation.

Mt. Juliet police had responded to a robbery report at the restaurant at Cedar Creek Marina just before the shooting was reported, according to the department.

The armed suspects ambushed staff in the restaurant, and two staff members were assaulted and forced to open a cash safe, police said.

Both workers were treated and released by medics at the scene.

The 27-year-old victim who died was found in his vehicle, according to police. Police tried to treat the man until medics arrived at the scene, but he died from his injuries, they said.

The restaurant is in Mt. Juliet's city limits, but the parking lot is in Wilson County's jurisdiction, according to police.
