‘The Fire Inside’ traces Michigan boxer Claressa Shields’ rise to in-ring glory
DETROIT - Ahead of her title fight at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday, Flint's Claressa Shields is also getting ready for her big screen debut. "The Fire Inside," Shields' biopic about overcoming odds and becoming a two-time Olympic gold medal winning fighter, is due out later this year. The movie stars native Detroiter Ryan Destiny as Shields and Academy Award-nominee Brian Tyree Henry ("Causeway") as her trainer, Jason Crutchfield.

Sentencing set for Holly woman
Angela Marie Wallace, 54, of Holly, is expected back in Oakland County Circuit Court for sentencing on Oct. 3 at 8:30 a.m. on her embezzlment case. Wallace’s case dates back to Dec. 6, 2023, when she was arraigned on the two counts in Oakland County 52-2 District Court. She appeared in court and stood mute to the charges. A plea of not guilty was entered by the court. She was released on personal bond of $5,000.

After building an untouchable legacy in boxing, Claressa Shields is focusing on building one outside of the sport. Ahead of her fight for the heavyweight title against Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night — which would make her a champion in four weight divisions — the most decorated woman in boxing history told The Detroit News that she has entered the world of real estate and wants to turn Claressa Shields Street in her hometown of Flint into a thriving mixed-use neighborhood modeled after Sugar Ray Robinson Way in Harlem.
