Former Michigan State coach Harlon Barnett is already making a positive impact for a fellow Big Ten squad. Barnett — who has been a long-time coach at Michigan State and served as the Spartans interim head coach last year for 10 games — has joined the Northwestern staff this year. He will serve as an assistant head coach and safeties coach for the Wildcats.
Woman misses chance to avoid jail
CARO — One could say Rachel L. Parrish received a break when a judge delayed her sentence for one year, keeping her out of jail. But Parrish, 32, of Caro, didn’t take advantage of the situation. Last week a judge ruled Parrish “did not successfully complete her delay of sentence,” and tossed her in jail for 180 days – with credit for 74 days served.

Forecast turning towards dry weather after isolated showers today
SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Showers remain in the forecast today, but coverage is expected to be quite limited as of this point. Dioxin Superfund Cleanup Meeting Scheduled for July 24
The next meeting of the Saginaw-Tittabawassee Rivers Contamination Community Advisory Group (CAG) will be held Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. The CAG meets to discuss issues related to the dioxin contamination of the Tittabawassee and Saginaw rivers and their cleanup. These meetings are open to the public and are mostly held once a quarter. The group was established to represent the interests of the community, to share information, and make recommendations to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on the cleanup of the rivers and the Saginaw Bay.

Flint man sentenced for dumping paint on girlfriend's property
FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - A Flint man who has been found guilty of domestic assault in which he did more than $100,000 in damage will spend up to 20 years in prison. Court records show 63-year-old Arthur Humphreys was sentenced on Monday to a minimum of 57 months in prison to a maximum of 20 years. Humphreys was credited with 342 days of time served.
