Convicted felon with firearm flees from officers
On Monday, July 1, 2024, Officers observed Eddie Mills (50 of Kinston) driving erratically on N Rochelle Blvd and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Mills refused to stop and led officers on a short vehicle pursuit before stopping on Cypress Street. Once the vehicle stopped, Mills fled on foot. Officers were able to apprehend Mills and took him into custody. In addition to several unrelated warrants, Mills was charged with the following and placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond:

Jim Perry, R-Lenoir, was appointed to fill a vacancy in the Senate in 2019 and has since risen to become Senate majority whip — a top leadership position tasked with keeping the Republican caucus in line and voting as a bloc — as well as serving as co-chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

A Fourth of July event will be held on Thursday, July 4, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Pearson Park. “Downtown Kinston Revitalization, the City of Kinston and the Kinston Lenoir County Parks & Recreation Department are thrilled to host the annual July 4th Independence Day celebration in downtown Kinston's Pearson Park,” said DKR Executive Director Leon Steele. “The festivities kick off at 3:30 with Flimsy.
