The Great Eclipse 2024 is underway! Thanks to the efforts of local business owners, there will be something to do for everyone this weekend.

This weekend, till the day of the eclipse, April 8, you can find food trucks, vendors, vintage booths, and a car show in downtown Mount Pleasant. You and your family can take part in a city-wide scavenger hunt and there’s a free concert in Caldwell Park tomorrow night. The coordinator of Great Eclipse 2024, Kellye Cooper, said at least 20 businesses are taking part in this event.

“With so many travelers in town, I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to show off what Mount Pleasant has to offer,” Cooper said. “This is a once in a lifetime chance. Even if you’re a resident, bring your whole family. I hope travelers love the town just as much as I do.”

The ‘eclipse task force’ have been working hard to pull this off, even putting together a thousand welcome packets for travelers and anyone who wants to join the fun this weekend. These bags will have eclipse stickers, business cards, coupons, and a map for the scavenger hunt. Shea Taylor, owner of Best Kids Afterschool & Summer Camp & Martial Arts, said, “This is such a cool opportunity to show someone new. I hope it brings a lot to the local businesses so we can really profit. Many people are coming together to provide this event and it’s cool to see all the different things everyone offers, a lot of it for free. This is what people can do when they come together.”

All through the weekend, you can find various events and vendors on the downtown square, a concert Saturday night in Caldwell Park, and a car show by the bell tower.
