• MPHS UIL advances to Regional academic meet

The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Academic team competed in the District 15-5A UIL Academic Meet on April 6 at Hallsville High School.

Overall, nine MPHS students advanced to the Regional Meet in six events with many others placing in their events.

Team members advancing to Regionals include: Spelling, Second place team: Sophie Greco Second, Brissia Alvarez Fifth, Jenny Luna Sixth, Karen Hernandez Calculator Applications, Second place team: Nathaniel Martinez Second, Clinton DeBord Fourth, Luke Thurman Sixth, Yahaira Piña Mathematics, Second place team: Nathaniel Martinez Third, Luke Thurman Fifth, Yahaira Piña Fifth, Clinton DeBord Social Studies: Estven Perez, Third Ready Writing: Brissia Alvarez Second Prose: Kiara Rundles, First Also placing in their events were Makayla Spigner, Fourth place in Ready Writing, Sophie Greco, Fifth place in Ready Writing, Brissia Alvarez, Fifth place in Copy Editing and Fifth place in Headline Writing, Idania Castanon, Sixth place in News Writing, Evelyn Hernandez, Sixth place in Headline Writing, and Angelina Hernandez, Top Speaker and Fifth in Lincoln Douglas Debate and Sixth in Extemporaneous Speaking. Advancing teams and individuals will compete at the regional meet to be held April 26-27 at The University of Texas at Arlington.

Those placing in the top three in each event will qualify for the State meet in May.

Regional qualifying coaches are Gina Crouch (Spelling), David Clark (Social Studies), Osias Hernandez (Calculator Applications and Mathematics), and Gabrielle Robbins (Ready Writing).
