On the morning of Tuesday, April 18, a warm summer air drifted across the parking lot of the Pilgrim’s Hiring Center as Mount Pleasant Mayor Tracy Craig stood with four gentlemen to award them for their heroic acts of bravery.

Quentin Coffey, Roger Browning Jr., Daniel Tucker, and Tyrone Webberson are employees at Pilgrim’s Pride. Browning explained that he works as a shipping supervisor and that they were having a meeting around 10:30 p.m. on the night of April 1st. They noticed a fire close to the Pilgrim’s property. He alerted his supervisor, then he, Coffey, Tucker, and Webberson ran to the structure. They noticed a man inside the home who needed help. All four men rushed to help not only the man, but also alerted neighbors of the nearby fire in case the fire spread.

According to the Mount Pleasant Fire Department’s report, the fire happened at a family home at 301 Monticello Road. 70% of the house was on fire by the time firefighters arrived, but no fatalities or injuries were reported.

“We want to thank them for all they do,” Mayor Craig said. “It takes a lot for somebody to act when they see something wrong. [They] could have easily gone past that and said, ‘Well, the fire department will get to it’. Every minute, every second in an emergency situation is important.”

Browning expressed what he was feeling during the intense moments and why he jumped into action, “Adrenaline was up real bad, but where I come from, we help everybody. If someone needs my help, I’m gonna try my best to help them the best way I can. That’s just the way I was born and raised, to help people in hard times.”
