Salisbury Man Killed in Bridgeville Head-On Crash
BRIDGEVILLE, DE - The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 22-year-old Salisbury man in Wednesday’s early hours. According to investigators, a Dodge Durango was driving north on Sussex Highway on July 17th just before 1 a.m. approaching Newtown Road in Bridgeville. At the same time, police say a Hyundai Santa Fe was driving the wrong way in the same northbound lane towards the Durango. As the two vehicles approached each other, the Dodge moved into the right lane to avoid the oncoming Hyundai. Police say the Hyundai also switched lanes, causing the two vehicles to collide.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Former Frostburg State and Maryland offensive tackle Gottlieb Ayedze was drafted by the DC Defenders in the United Football League draft on Wednesday. The United Football League (UFL) is a developmental football league that was a merger between the XFL and United States Football League. Ayedze was drafted fourth overall by the Defenders, but is not expected to immediately join them. Joseph Raymond “Joe” Stevens
Stevens, Joseph Joseph Raymond "Joe" Stevens, 80, of Grantsville, MD, passed from this life on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV. Born June 26, 1944, in Cumberland, MD, he was the youngest of three children born to James Arthur and Lucille Margaret (Smith) Stevens. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James. A. Stevens, Jr., and his sister Dona (Stevens) Hungerford Smith. Mr. Stevens was a 1962 graduate of Beall High School. He also attended Frostburg State College, playing on the College's first football team. His early employment included the P & K Service Center, Frostburg, MD, and the Celanese Corporation, Cresaptown, MD. He retired from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, New Germany State Park and Savage River State Forest, with thirty-three years of service as a Forest Ranger. He was also a past member of the 365th Supply Company, United States Army Reserves, Cresaptown. Joe was a longtime member and former trustee of the Classy Chassis Car Club. Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rebecca Jane (Bowser) Stevens, whom he married on August 20, 1966; his daughter Julie (Stevens) Yoder and husband Dennis, Bittinger, MD; and two grandsons, Derek Yoder and wife Vicki, Oakland, MD; and Andrew Yoder, Bittinger. He is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces: Steve, Tommy, Michael, and Joe Hungerford, Sherri Coppage, Ladona Gorham, and James A. Stevens, III. He is also survived by several lifelong friends and fellow retirees: Rick Lewis, Harold (Mac) MacDonald, and Bob Hershberger; coffee buddies, Fred Holliday and Jim Wilburn; dear friends Jerry and Lori Clise; and many cousins and close friends. A Celebration of Life honoring Joe will be held on Saturday, August 24th at 7:00 p.m. in the Lake House at New Germany State Park, Grantsville, MD. A private interment will be held on the family farm in Preston County, WV. The family has asked friends and family who wish to express their sympathy to plant a tree or send contributions to Northern Garrett Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 293, Grantsville, MD 21536 or to Bittinger Vol. Fire Department/EMS, 176 Brenneman Road, Bittinger, MD, 21522, in Joe's memory. Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller Street, Grantsville, is assisting Joe's family with his arrangements.
Kitzmiller Homecoming set for July 27
KITZMILLER — The 35th annual Kitzmiller Homecoming is scheduled for next Saturday at the Kitzmiller Community Center (former Kitzmiller School.) Planned activities will include the annual car show, a cornhole tournament, a volleyball tournament, horse drawn carriage rides, and plenty more activities for families. Live music also will be featured in the afternoon.

LAVALE — Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC) welcomes Aster Berhane, MD, to WVU Medicine Garrett Medical Group in LaVale. Dr. Berhane received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. She spent two years in an internal medicine residency program at Wayne, in the Detroit Medical Center. She obtained her undergraduate degree at Andrews University/Adventist University of East Africa, Kenya (affiliate university) in Berrien Springs, Mich.

Embassy to host Dr. Horrible weekend
CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Embassy Theatre, in collaboration with new producer Show-Benders, will stage a weekend pop-up musical for Buffyverse Josh Wedon fans Aug. 2-4. Written during the Hollywood writers’ strike of 2008 and produced exclusively for internet distribution, the plot centers on Dr. Horrible (Billy), an aspiring supervillain who documents his schemes in an onlineblog. In his quest to make a name for himself, he receives a letter from the Evil League of Evil, instructing him to commit murder to gain acceptance.
Garrett College students complete CCMA program
MCHENRY — Five students recently completed the classroom portion of the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) program at Garrett College. They are now working to complete their final externship hours before sitting for the CCMA national certification.
