Elwood T. Porter, 84, of Meyersdale, died June 27, 2024 at Devlin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cumberland, Md. Born October 18, 1939 in Barrelville, Md., the son of the late George William and Dorothy Lillian (Witt) Porter. Also preceded in death by his sister: Patricia Murray; son-in-law: Thomas Allen Boger; and grandson: Thomas Allen Boger Jr. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Shelba J. (Leighty) Porter; children: Victoria Dawn Porter, Meyersdale; George William Porter Sr., Meyersdale; Cherie Patrice Hinkle and husband Leon, Fort Ashby, W.Va; and Wendy Lorraine Porter, Manassas, Va; grandchildren: Shauna Bonilla and husband Miguel, Kristen Ashley Engle and husband Heath, George William Porter Jr. and wife Cassie, Nicholas Brandon Porter and wife Emily, Krystal Thompson, Tracey Stewart and husband Ronnie, and Sarah Boger; great grandchildren: Aaralynn, Addison, Heath Jr., George III, Stefan, Jade, Jensen, Dakota, Bailey, Ronnie Jr., Trinity David, and Caleb; siblings: Maxine Clark, Michigan; Wayne Porter and wife Carlotta, Md.; Richard Porter and wife Brenda, Pa. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Buddy Boy. He was a charter member of the Wellersburg Fire Department. Elwood was a former member of Grace Independent Bible Church, Meyersdale. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. Maryland State Police investigating inmate death at Allegany County prison
CUMBERLAND, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating an inmate death that happened in an Allegany County prison Saturday afternoon. The inmate, identified as 80-year-old Ralph Ruark, was serving time at the Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland. He was declared dead by EMS around 3:30 p.m., and was then taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the cause and manner of death.
