Mrs. Stephanie Domingo, Lyons
Mrs. Stephanie Domingo, age 51, of Lyons, died Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia. She was a native of Dublin and lived most of her life in Toombs County. She was a 1991 graduate of Warner Robins High School and later graduated from Central Georgia Technical College. Stephanie was a substitute teacher with Toombs County School System for many years. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church and in her spare time she enjoyed decorating, boiling peanuts, cooking, and baking and most importantly, witnessing for the Lord. She especially loved spending time with her family and caring for children and others. She is preceded in death by her step-mother, Debra Brantley; and step-father, Frank Dunn.

Mr. W.L. “Bill” Wilson, 82, of Norristown, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 13, at 2 p.m. at Anchor of Hope Worship Center in Soperton. Family received friends at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Interment followed at Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Norristown.
Ms Susan "Susie" Thorton, Vidalia
Ms. Susan “Susie” Thorton, age 68, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Florida and had lived most of her life in Georgia. Susan’s life revolved around service to her friends and family, and her legacy of love will enrich them all for generations to come. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar, Sr. and Dorothy Cash; her sister, Lucille Yoakem; her nephew, Scott Yoakem; and her great-grandnephew, Gabriel Lott.
Mrs. Ruth Mitchum Williamson, Treutlen County
Mrs. Ruth Mitchum Williamson, age 80, of Treutlen County, died Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, following an extended illness. She was born in Toombs County on March 28, 1944, to the late Ralph Mitchum and Georgia Colbert Mitchum. She lived in the Vidalia area most of her life before moving to Treutlen County twenty-three years ago. She worked at Oxford Manufacturing and Globe Manufacturing in Vidalia for many years. She was a member of Mt. Shady Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, decorating for Christmas, yard work, and spending time at the Ohoopee River fishing. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Mitchum and Billy Jones; one sister, Bobbie Faye Gulden; and a special niece, Judy Fuller.
Rustin retires after 25 years at Southeastern Technical College
Director for Economic Development and Continuing Education Susan Rustin retired after twenty-five years of dedicated service to Southeastern Technical College (STC). While a student at Southeastern Technical College, receiving a Business Office Technology Diploma, Rustin began working for Southeastern Tech as a continuing education business and industry specialist. She assisted in coordinating classes, conferencing, and catering, served work-ready programs, coordinated leadership programs, hired instructors, and administrated proctored exams for industry certifications.

Col. Sidney R. “Sid” Miles, former state public safety commissioner with connections to Douglas, has passed away after a battle with cancer. He was 73. Col. Miles was a dedicated public servant and beloved family man passed away on July 14, 2024, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was reared in Reidsville, graduating from the Reidsville High School in 1969. After graduation, he attended then-South Georgia College in Douglas, and Reinhardt University, where he received a degree in Criminal Justice.

Mr. Ronnie Lee Foskey Sr., age 67, beloved husband of Wanda Lumley Foskey of Adrian, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, July 13, 2024 at their home. Born in Warner Robins, he was the eldest of four sons born to the late Lee Roy Foskey and Iris Christine Mimbs Foskey. He grew up in Adrian and was a graduate of Adrian High School, Class of 1974. What a boor I am!
Once several years ago I attended a Friends-of-the-Library meeting in Hazlehurst’s beautiful new facility. After a business meeting, Carole Jones Graham spoke on etiquette. Quite the expert, she has even written books on the subject. I am quite the amateur and can hardly remember which fork to use for which dish. (Any of you know why that matters?)
