Reta Herndon Gillis Frisancho finished her Earthly journey on June 30, 2024 at age 85. Reta was born Nov. 5, 1938 in Calhoun County, Florida to Marie and Ira Herndon. Her childhood was spent between Florida and Georgia. Reta was a graduate of Treutlen High School. She went on to accounting school and income- tax preparation school, and she became a licensed nail technician and an apprentice beautician.

Mr. Harley Strickland, age 66, of Vidalia, died Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Emanuel Medical Center after a sudden illness. Funeral service was held Monday, July 1, at 3 p.m. in the chap-el of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Efton Green officiating. Burial followed at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Clell J. Osburn, age 76, of Adrian, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at his home following an extended illness. Graveside ser-vices were conducted Friday, June 28, at 12 p.m. in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Jonathan Shepard officiating. Military Honors were observed.
Dead Fish being reported in Chattooga River after Ammonia Spill
An ammonia spill at Mount Vernon Mills, located in Trion, Georgia, forced evacuations of nearby residents on June 26th. Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas stated the source of that leak was a transfer truck that was bringing ammonia to the mill. The truck driver went through protocol for a spill – and called Chattooga 9-1-1. Exactly how that spill occurred was NOT made clear immediately.

Jeff Raiford, Market Manager and Director of Sales for RadioJones, presents Wilson Johnson with an award for his service to the listeners of the Vidalia radio stations. For more than 20 years, Wilson Johnson has been hosting a monthly radio program on first Vidalia Communications and now RadioJones, and each month he strives to keep the public informed on community projects as well as welcoming guests to discuss current events. Mr. Royce Edward Dismuke, of Oak Park
Mr. Royce Edward Dismuke, age 78, of Oak Park, died Saturday, June 29, 2024, at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro, after a brief illness. He was a native of Oak Park, living there all of his life, and was a 1963 graduate of Oak Park High School. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam war where he was an airplane mechanic. He was a carpenter and worked at Chickasha in Vidalia, Edwin I Hatch Plant, BE&K Construction and ITS Construction in Savannah. He was a member of The Rock Worship Center in Stillmore. Royce loved his country music, played guitar, and was passionate about motorcycles and rode frequently. He enjoyed fishing, and could build about anything out of wood, giving much of his work to family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Edward Dismuke and Mattie Irene Fowler Dismuke; brother, Gerald Dean Dismuke; sister, Rose Ellen Dismuke Oglesby; the mother of his children, Judith Ann Dismuke; and a brother-in-law, Garland Kerr.

Johnny Dixon, age 83, of Lyons, died Saturday, June 29, 2024, after an extended illness. He was born in Wheeler County, but lived most of his life in Toombs County. He worked in construction, drove a truck for Georgia Highway Express and Transus, and worked at Handy Andy. He was a member of South Thompson Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lige Alvin “Preacher” Dixon and Sally Ann Thigpen Dixon; two sisters, Margarette Dykes and Gwen Miller.

He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County and attended Toombs Central School. He worked with Piggly Wiggly Southern for twelve years and retired after thirty-four years as Area Sales Director for Flowers Distributing. He was a member of Calvary on Aimwell and served as music director for several years. He enjoyed traveling, yard work, working on small engines, watching westerns, and sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. He is preceded in death by his parents, R.N. Strickland and Frances Parrish Strickland; and four siblings, Albert Strickland, Charlie Strickland, Patsy Strickland, and Newton Strickland.

1 person dead, driver arrested after pedestrian vs. vehicle wreck in Vidalia
TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A pedestrian is dead, and a driver has been arrested after a wreck in Vidalia, according to the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office. Toombs County 911 Dispatch received a call for a wreck involving a white semi-truck with a flatbed trailer and a pedestrian near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 south and CH Slayton Road around 2 p.m. Friday. When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle parked on the shoulder of the northbound lane. They also found 44-year-old William Hadlock of Jesup laying in the middle of the roadway. He sustained traumatic injuries and later died at the scene.

Mr. Mark E. Quigley, age 51, of Vidalia, died Thursday, June 27, 2024, at his residence, following an extended illness. He was a native of Lowell, Massachusetts, and as a child moved to Sarasota, Florida before moving to Vidalia in 1994. He was a 1990 graduate of Vidalia High School and was a self-employed electrician, plumber, and carpenter. Mark always had a project going for himself of someone else, and could do anything he set his mind to. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, grilling, cooking, eating, and spending time with family. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Alfred Quigley, Jr. and Ann Marie Walker Quigley.
