Crabbing season returns to Whatcom County waters
BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Summer crabbing season is upon us as the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announces rules and regulations for this summer. The season officially opens on July 18 for Bellingham and the San Juan Islands, lasting through Sept. 30 and crabbing is only allowed Thursdays through Mondays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be closed for all recreational crabbing.

Dispatch advised of a vehicle prowl complaint in the Mount Erie parking lot on Thursday, July 11. An Anacortes man reported that his car had been broken into, along with other vehicles parked there. His vehicle had been ransacked, and he discovered some ammunition and a knife to be missing. The responding officer documented the theft.
Bellingham Woman Sentenced to Four Years for Role in Fentanyl Trafficking Ring Impacting Lummi Nation
A Bellingham woman, involved in a fentanyl distribution network that significantly impacted the Lummi Nation, was sentenced to four years in prison. Natasha Parkhill, 38, received her sentence after a guilty plea in March 2024, for her role as a drug redistributor within the trafficking ring. U.S. District Judge Richard A. Jones condemned her actions at the sentencing, stating, "You knew what the devastation would be since you had a drug addiction yet you still continued to distribute fentanyl without regard for the impact on the community," as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
