A 63-year-old woman was trying to get out of an inner tube when she went underwater for a “lengthy period of time,” Missouri officials said.

Julia Monroe, from Mountain Home, Arkansas, never resurfaced, according to an incident report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. She had been swimming Saturday, July 13, in the White River, near the North Fork, in Ozark County, the incident report said.

A nearby swimmer pulled Monroe from the lake. Monroe was pronounced dead less than one hour later, the incident report said.

The North Fork of the White River is about a 10-mile drive southwest of Cabool, Missouri, which is about a 75-mile drive east of Springfield.
