    Fallen Henderson Co. deputy honored with bridge dedication

    HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) — North Carolina officials named a bridge after a fallen Henderson County deputy Thursday.

    According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the dedication started at 9 a.m., with the bridge on U.S 64/Four Seasons Boulevard being named after Ryan P. Hendrix .

    Hendrix was killed September 10, 2020, while responding to a call in the Mountain Home community. A suspect was order by deputies to show his hands, but instead grabbed a gun and shot Hendrix.

    Sheriff Griffin said Hendrix was a Marine veteran, having volunteered for a tour of duty in Iraq in 2006. The father of two had been with the department for eight years.

    NCDOT Board Member Chuck McGrady, Henderson County Sheriff Lowell Griffin. Congressman Chuck Edwards, Henderson County Councilwoman Jennifer Hensley and Hendrix’s father spoke at the event.
