River levels climb across northern Illinois due to recent rainfall
With how much heavy rain northern Illinois endured since Saturday afternoon, expect river levels to slowly rise over the next few days. Flood warnings remain in place for multiple spots along the Rock including Como, Byron, Latham Park, and Rockton. Wing eating contest registration to open for Wings and Wheels event at Decatur Airport
June 16, 2024 – Registration for the Wing eating contest at the Wings and Wheels event at the Decatur Airport will open Thursday at 10am. The Wing Eating contest is open for up to 48 contestants to compete in the preliminaries on Saturday. Heats will be held at 2pm, 3:30pm, 5pm and 6:30pm. The top two finishers from each heat will go on to complete in the finals on Sunday at 5pm. Registration is $20 per person and interested competitors can call 217-429-3472 or visit the DISC to register.

NWS says Tuesday’s storms were a derecho
FORT WAYNE (ADAMS) – The Storm Prediction Center sayas it was a derecho blew across Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio early Tuesday morning. A derecho is a straight-line windstorm that occurs over a large area with wind gusts of at least 58 mph. The storm spawned several tornadoes along it’s leading edge including twisters at O’Hare and Midway airports in Chicago and in northern Indiana.

ILLINOIS, USA — Nearly 150 more high-risk zip codes have been added to the Illinois Department of Public Health's lead testing list. IDPH keeps track of zip codes throughout the state where residents are at a higher risk of lead exposure. On July 1, 148 new zip codes, representing 60 Illinois counties, were added to the list. That brings the total number of high risk zip codes up to almost 1,200.
