Pillsbury plant artifacts recovered from fire-ravaged building at 413 E. Adams
Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – After initially believing all was lost in the fire at 413 E. Adams St. in June, Moving Pillsbury Forward has now recovered some of the Pillsbury plant artifacts from the damaged building. MPF President Chris Richmond estimates they were able to recover 30% of the art and artifact collection that was stored and exhibited on the third floor. Among the items recovered are the bicep doughboy panel, the smutters chalkboard, three custom metal grain scoops, and the service department rolodex.
Severe storms with tornado reports whip through Midwest, killing 1, cutting power to 460K
CHICAGO (AP) — Storms spawning multiple tornado reports blew through Iowa, Illinois — including Chicago — and Indiana on Monday, downing trees and power poles and cutting power to more than 460,000 customers and businesses. A woman in Indiana died after a tree fell onto a home, authorities said. The 44-year-old woman died Monday night in Cedar Lake, Indiana, the Lake County Coroner’s office said. There were some tornado reports, but damaging winds in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana were the main concern, Roger Edwards, lead forecaster with the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, said. There were numerous wind gusts in the 75 mph (120 kph) to 90 mph (145 kph) range and a report of a 101 mph (162 kph) wind gust in Ogle County, Illinois, Edwards said. The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado hit Des Moines, Iowa, as storms rolled through Monday afternoon and into the night. Des Moines police were responding to calls about utility poles that had apparently snapped in two.
Severe weather slams central Illinois, again
For the second time in as many nights, damaging winds caused widespread damage and power outages. The storms Monday night resulted in staggering wind gusts. A corn crib was destroyed by a 105 mile per hour wind gust near Camp Grove in Marshall County. South Pekin clocked a 78 mile per hour wind gust, Elmwood 71 mph and Lewistown 70 mph. Wind gusts of 60 to 70 miles per hour were common over most of the area. Several communities reported wind damage with the main problem being trees and tree limbs knocking down power lines and causing roads and streets to be blocked. We’ll get a better idea of damage when it’s daylight. The Monday night storms hit as some communities were cleaning up from storms Sunday night which caused damage in Henry and Bloomington.
