“Illinois Troops at the Battle of Gettysburg” Leads July 16th TAPS ON TUESDAY
On Tuesday, July 9th, “Taps on Tuesday” was sounded at 6:00 p.m. in a light rain, but the program on “Illinois Troops at the Battle of Gettysburg” was postponed until this week’s “Taps” Program. This week’s program hosts and speakers are Greg Green, Larry Weatherford, and Tara Auter. Rebecca Woodrum will perform the National Anthem, and “Taps” will be presented by Ruth Sowers. “Taps on Tuesday” is held each week between Memorial Day and the day after Labor Day at the Soldiers Circle at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Presented by the Vermilion County War Museum and the Ward Hill Lamon Civil War Roundtable.

In taking one more look at this past weekend’s Balloons Over Vermilion at Vermilion Regional Airport: it was really a perfect Saturday; from the balloons that woke Vermilion County up with their morning flight, to the balloons that took off shortly after dinnertime, to the traditional glow. A full house of attendees Monday morning (July 15th), at the CRIS Healthy Aging building on Franklin Street in Danville, heard an important annual message from State Senator Paul Faraci and Heather Calcara from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. The topic was scams that affect seniors. One constant theme was that with all the technological and electronic ways to move money these days; that only opens to door to more opportunities for fraud. Senator Faraci says the criminal are getting more creative all the time, so these regular meetings are needed.
