HARTFORD CITY, Ind. — A Muncie woman has been accused of providing meth to fellow inmates in the Blackford County Jail.

Dawn Jeanette Castor, 51, was charged Monday in Blackford Circuit Court with dealing in meth, possession of meth and trafficking with an inmate.

According to court documents, staff at the jail — along Indiana 26 east of Hartford City — on July 12 determined meth was being circulated in a cell block holding female prisoners.

Tests were conducted on 11 inmates, an affidavit said, and showed that three — including Castor — had recently ingested meth.

Castor, meanwhile, told jail officers that another of the inmates had swallowed a bag while in custody in Huntington County.

According to the affidavit, interviews were conducted with the inmates in the cell block, and three reported Castor had approached them and given them meth, which they then ingested.

A fourth inmate reported Castor told her she had a "surprise" for her. The woman said she then ignored Castor because she did not want what she assumed the Muncie resident was offering to her.

Jail video footage appeared to confirm the prisoners' accounts of their dealings with Castor, a Blackford County sheriff's deputy reported.

Castor declined to be interviewed about the allegations without consulting an attorney, the court document said.

The inmate Castor earlier said had ingested a bag of meth reportedly confirmed that allegation and was taken to IU Health Jay County Hospital in Portland. Efforts to retrieve the bag failed, and the inmate was transferred to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie "to be monitored and to possibly be sent for surgery."

The dealing charge filed against Castor is a Level 4 felony carrying up to 12 years in prison, while the other two charges are Level 5 felonies with maximum six-year sentences.,

Castor was in the Blackford County jail as a result of being found guilty, in February of possession of meth, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

She later received a two-year sentence with 550 days of that term being suspended.

The Muncie woman, formerly of Selma, has also been convicted of maintaining a common nuisance, unlawful possession of a legend drug and visiting a common nuisance.
