Fort Smith officials vote to broaden low-income water bill assistance programs as rates go up
FORT SMITH, Ark. — In a special meeting on the night of July 16, the Fort Smith Board of Directors voted to increase the qualification levels for Project Concern, from 165% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines to 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, ultimately allowing more people to apply for the program.
New administrative team announced at Eagle Mountain Elementary
The Batesville School District has announced the appointment of a new principal and vice principal at Eagle Mountain Elementary. Mychelle Spivey (pictured above, left) has been appointed principal of Eagle Mountain Elementary. Spivey earned a specialist degree in education principalship from Arkansas State University in August 2018 and a master’s degree in educational theory and practice from Arkansas State University in August 2014. Her educational journey began at Lyon College in Batesville, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in early childhood education and history in May 2011.

Johnson Leads Students In Culinary Efforts
Zane Johnson, a 2004 graduate of Mountain View High School, is now a culinary arts instructor whose students are taking food prep to new heights. Johnson is going into his 10th year as an instructor at Northeast Arkansas Career and Technical Center (NACTC) in Jonesboro. High school students in his program recently won first place in a NASA culinary challenge designed to develop food for astronauts aboard the International Space Station.
