Beloved LR Zoo elephant in hospice care
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - After years of beating the medical odds, the Little Rock Zoo’s beloved elephant, Sophie, has been placed in hospice care. “A pyometra infection has caused her progressive decline, and staff are administering comfort care for the end stage of her life,” Monday’s news release stated.

On Thursday, July 11th, 2024, at approximately 10:05am, Officers with the Hope Police Department arrested Bernard McCarthur, 53 of Hope, AR. Mr. McCarthur was arrested and charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance, three counts and Possession of a Controlled Substance near Certain Facilities, three counts. The arrest occurred in the 600 block of South Elm Street. Mr. McCarthur was transported to the Hempstead County Detention Facility and held for a first appearance.
