The Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GMCCI), the City of Muscatine and Keep Muscatine Beautiful have altered some of the city’s 4th of July events to avoid construction and potential flooding in the area.

The Musser Public Library’s Children’s Parade will take place on Second Street at 9 a.m. The community parade will now go through Kent Stein Park, entering from Houser Street. Parade staging starts at 2 p.m. in the Soccer West parking lot and the parade starts at 4 p.m. There is limited access on Houser Street in front of the Soccer Complex and the Kent Stein Park entrance. Residents, American Legion customers and those staying for the parade will still have access. Multiple parking options are available Kent Stein Park. Parade watchers should enter the park no later than 3:45 p.m. and cannot leave when the parade is in motion. The main Soccer Complex will have additional parking and golf carts will transport people.

The Almost Fireworks Fest (AFF) will be on Mississippi Drive and Iowa Avenue in the street from 4 – 8 p.m. Mississippi Drive will be blocked off from Chestnut Street to Cedar Street to allow the public to enjoy the festivities and fireworks show. Military guests of honor will be featured on the AFF stage, including this year’s parade marshal, Rear Admiral Pamela Miller, the Medical Officer of the United States Marine Corps and Vice Chief, Bureau of Medicine Reserve Policy and Integration. There will also be a special Purple Heart Award Ceremony for SSG Keith Ormsby, U.S. Army Combat Wounded, Vietnam and a Chinook helicopter flyover by the Army National Guard. The Muscatine Symphony Orchestra and the Color Guard will be in the Musser Public Library parking lot immediately following the AFF stage events.

Fireworks over the Mississippi River will start at dusk. Spectators should bring lawn chairs to enjoy the show from Mississippi Drive.
