Man charged with stuffing his son in freezer dies
HENRY COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) - A man accused of stuffing his teenage son’s body in a freezer died before his case could go to trial. Court records show Michael Shane Halstead died on July 7. Attorney Arthur Medley filed a motion to dismiss the charges following Halstead’s death.

FLORENCE — The Civil Service Board in Florence selected Acting Police Chief Mike Holt for the permanent police chief position last week. Holt was appointed acting chief by Mayor Andy Betterton in June while the Civil Service Board decided who would take the permanent role. Holt replaces Ron Tyler, who recently retired.

Department of Defense Awards $23 Million to Augment the United States Domestic Aluminum Casting Supply Chain
The Department of Defense announced today a $23 million award via the Defense Production Act Investment (DPAI) program to Constellium Muscle Shoals LLC in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The award aims to increase capacity in annual aluminum casting production, secure capability to supply U.S. mills, and provide surge capacity to support U.S. security commitments around the globe. This effort supports the 2024 National Defense Industrial Strategy to continue and expand support for domestic production to increase supply chain resilience.
