Tuttle Creek urges people to be aware of surroundings on the water for the upcoming holiday
MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - Many people will gather around the water for the holiday, and it’s always important to remember some safety aspects while out there. Tuttle Creek Park Rangers advise everyone to be aware of their surroundings on the water this week and weekend. Due to the amount of rainfall over the past few weeks, some debris and trees you might normally see are currently submerged. They urge everyone to wear a lifejacket and make sure they are prepared to hit the water.

The Norman Police Department (NPD) Proactive Crime Enforcement Unit (PACE) has initiated a Bait Bike Project to help address the ongoing problem of bike theft in Norman. Multiple bicycles equipped with tracking devices have been deployed across Norman over the course of the last month. The bicycles have been stolen multiple times and are most often taken within 48 hours of placement at a location.

Violence intervention nonprofit celebrates progress in Northeast Oklahoma City
The U.S. Surgeon General recently declared a national public health crisis over gun violence. One Oklahoma City nonprofit is fighting to change outcomes in its community. LiveFree OKC is a Community-Based Violence Intervention program based in Oklahoma City’s Eastside community. The organization’s leaders believe they’ve made a difference in their first year and they say the numbers bear that out. There have been three homicides in Northeast OKC this year. In 2023, there were 12 homicides in the area, according to police.
