You Can Help Name the Newest Bison Baby at Big Bone Lick State Historic Site in KY
Big Bone Lick State Historic Site is one of the coolest places in Kentucky. Ancient world history happened right here in our backyard and you can explore it in Union County. Experts believe that the Ice Age pushed prehistoric mammals south that would have otherwise not have ever lived in this area. "The bones of many prehistoric mammals, including mammoths, mastodons, ground sloths, bison, stag-moose, and a forerunner of the modern-day horse have been found at Big Bone Lick."
CDC Warns of Deadly Virus Reported in Indiana and Tennessee
The Centers for Disease Control has released information about West Nile Virus and areas with human infections and pools testing positive. I can tell you from experience that there are plenty of illnesses out there right now. Not only is the regular cold still a thing, but the flu, strep throat, RSV, and COVID are all on the rise. Personally, I have had something lingering since mid-June.

This 105 Year Old Southern Indiana Home is Full of Historic Beauty
For the Love of Old Houses recently shared this southern Indiana gem on the Evansville market. I have always thought it would be amazing to live in a historic home. Imagine living in a place with so much character, and a lot of history. If only walls could talk! It would be fascinating to hear some of the stories of things that happened within the walls of historic homes. Not to mention historic homes just hold so much character and charm. In Evansville, a Victorian gem has hit the market, and it's stunning.
Here’s How Adults Can Enter Exhibits at the Warrick County 4-H Fair
This will be my daughter's third year competing at the Warrick 4-H Fair and it's one of her favorite weeks of the year. In 4-H, participants choose projects to work on, and these projects are then judged at the fair. It was fun to see the wide range of projects on display, from farm scenes to baked goods. My daughter took part in three projects last year: sewing, horse and pony, and photography. She sewed a skirt that she proudly wore to the 4-H fashion review, and also showcased her horse in various classes.

Famous Illinois Flea Market Returns With Celebrity Guests
This Illinois flea market not only offers many great treasures but also special celebrity guests to make appearances. I grew up going to flea markets. My parents loved going to them. The funny thing is, they rarely bought anything. They just like walking around and checking out all the stuff. I'm kind of the same way now.

Infamously Funny Scene from Oscar-Winning Film Shot in This Old KY Store
One of Hollywood's go-to genres for time immemorial has been the biopic. Sometimes, they are wildly successful, both with critics and at the box office. Other times, you get one and not the other. In 1980, both critics AND audiences fell in love with what might be my favorite biopic,...
Kentucky Town Among ‘Most Difficult to Pronounce’ in the Nation
One Kentucky town was recently named one of the most difficult to pronounce in the United States. Do you think you know what it is?. I'm sure that you have taken a little road trip in the past and have driven through some towns that greet you with their "Welcome to (insert town name here)" sign. The majority of these towns have pretty normal names. However, there are always some that you will see that will make you laugh out loud.
The Oldest Public Cemetery in Indiana is Older Than the State Itself
This cemetery is over 230 years old, older than the Hoosier State!. Over the past few months, I've been on a journey to highlight some of the oldest places around Indiana. A few places highlighted previously have some seriously interesting history, like Indiana's oldest store which was founded the same year Abraham Lincoln was elected President, and it's STILL open to this day! We also recently learned about the oldest high school in the state, and the oldest continually open high school (which happens to be right here in Evansville). And of course, we can't forget Indiana's oldest city, which is even older than the United States of America.
New 2024 Indiana Law Leads to Discovery of Hilariously “Corny” Website
July 1st was a big day for Hoosiers - that's when 100 new laws went into effect in Indiana. A couple of notable laws have to do with cell phones in the classroom, and the return of happy hour to Indiana bars. One new law that may have flown under your radar is SB 17 which requires age verification for material harmful to minors. More specifically...

Every State Where They’ve Made it Illegal to Have a Drink During Happy Hour
It may be "five o'clock somewhere," but that doesn't mean that it is happy hour everywhere. The concept of "happy hour," a period after typical work hours when discounts are offered to bar and restaurant patrons, is a bit of an American institution. You had a hard day of work and you now deserve a cold one and a plate of nachos.
Evansville Retailer to Close After 60 Years in Business
Paul’s Menswear launched a retirement sale last month, with plans to close doors after over 60 years on the west side of Evansville. While I never personally purchased a suit from Paul’s Menswear, I can certainly appreciate the time that goes into getting a suit or pants tailored. I purchased my first suit in December 2019 when I started going on job interviews after college. Buying my first suit around that time was, to me, a symbol of accomplishment, and it was a great experience. I would imagine many in the Evansville area have similar stories about shopping at Paul’s Menswear.
Southern Indiana Town Named One of the 15 Best Small Towns in the Nation
Smithsonian Magazine recently named the best small towns to visit across the U.S. and one Southern Indiana town made the list. There's something quaint and cozy about the feel of a small town. That's why many of us like to take vacations or weekend trips to cabins in remote locations. It's a way to escape the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. Every year Smithsonian Magazine highlights the best of small towns from all across the United States. As Smithsonian says, small towns truly make up the heart of America. These are places where the community will come together to celebrate the history of the area, and where many families live and work, and have done so for generations.

One Evansville Popeyes Fast-Food Restaurant Closes Unexpectedly
If you have driven past the Green River Road location of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen this week, and thought it looked less crowded than usual, you would be correct. Last Friday, July 5, 2024, I asked my husband to pick up a chicken sandwich and mac & cheese from the east side Popeyes location. In what I thought was a very 'Liberty' moment, he told me they were closed. Closed at 5:00 PM on a Friday afternoon, why?
See Why the Indiana State Fair’s Brand New “All-American Mary” is Going Viral
What are the characteristics of the perfect fair food? It's gotta be something you can eat on the go, it needs to look good, it helps to be unique, and of course, it needs to taste good. The problem with most fair food is that you normally have to stop at several booths to get all of your favorite things - but not at the 2024 Indiana State Fair.
