MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — The City of Monroe is preparing for heavy rainfall this evening, with an estimated up to 1.5 to 2 inches of rain; because of this forecast, city officials are urging residents to be proactive during the time to ensure safety and minimize the risk of flooding.

As the storm approaches, city crews are clearing debris from drainage systems, and Atakapa Services, LLC is working to clear storm drains. Although the two groups are working together, residents must also help clear debris and items from drainage grates and ditches.

This helps rainwater flow freely through the city’s stormwater system, reducing clogs and backups that cause flooding. The city reminds residents to stay weather-aware and report any flood-related problems to the Public Works Department at (318) – 329 – 2209. In case of an emergency, please call 911.

For the latest information, follow the city’s social media pages and look for alerts on the city’s website.
