    Methamphetamine, firearms found during probation check in Valley Springs

    VALLEY SPRINGS, California — A probation check led to the discovery of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and firearms at a Valley Springs residence, resulting in the arrest of two individuals.On August 13, 2024, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Calaveras County Probation Officers and Sheriff's Deputies conducted a home visit in the 3000 block of Antonovich Road to verify compliance with probation terms, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office. During the visit, officers found around 16 grams of methamphetamine, various drug paraphernalia, including empty coin-sized baggies and glass smoking pipes, a handgun, a rifle, and 60 rounds of ammunition.The suspects, 48-year-old Benjamin Lawrence Nava and 49-year-old Alvina Ann Nava, both residents of Valley Springs, were arrested without incident and transported to the Calaveras County Jail for booking. Alvina Nava has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance for sale. Benjamin Nava faces charges of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
