ROSCOE, Ill. (WTVO) — The wife of a missing Roscoe man asked the community for support in finding her husband after his disappearance Monday evening.

“If he happens to see this on TV, [I hope] that he tells somebody to call the police, we miss him and want him to come home,” said Cindy Wierschke.

Gilbert Wierschke, 76, suffers from Alzheimer’s. Cindy remembers checking on him regularly the day he disappeared, but he still vanished.

“I got involved in my project in [the] house and checked on him once, and so I was helping in the garage when I saw it was getting a little dark and I went out, checked, and I didn’t see him in the garage, checked the house, and so I took off in the car,” said Cindy.

Cindy could not locate him, so she contacted the police. Since then, they have conducted searches trying to find him.

“We just don’t know what happened to him. We’re hoping maybe someone has seen him,” said Cindy. “There’s been some sightings up near the Hononegah high school, but the police in Rockton said they checked it out, Couldn’t find him.”

Gilbert was last seen near the corner of Morning Cloak and Marble-Wing Lane in Roscoe. He was wearing a Chicago Cubs T-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.

He and Cindy have been married for 36 years. She said his Alzheimer’s has been getting worse recently.

“I think maybe he just wanted to go out and get some exercise that day and didn’t even think about it,” said Cindy. “I’ve talked to him about not taking off, and at the time he’ll say I won’t take off anymore. But Alzheimer’s people, I just don’t think they understand sometimes.”

Cindy concluded by saying she just wants her husband home.

There have been search parties with family and friends as well as the Illinois Search and Rescue Council. If you have any information call the Roscoe Police at (815) 623-7338.
