ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Winnebago County Animal Services says it will face some difficult decisions if it cannot encourage adoptions for more than 100 dogs that are straining its capacity.

The shelter, located at 4517 N Main Street, said it will waive adoption fees for over 30 animals , although the standard adoption process will still be enforced.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older; possess a state-issued photo ID; be up to date on license, registration, and vaccinations for pets currently owned; and have no animal-related complaints on file.

All adoptions include a wellness exam, microchip, vaccination, and flea and tick prevention.

Winnebago County Animal Services is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 pm., and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
