ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Winnebago County Deputies arrested Michael Jones, 29, for being an armed habitual criminal among other charges.

On August 22, around noon, started an investigation involving Jones for his alleged delivery of cocaine and firearms in the Rockford area.

During the investigation, police said they received audio and video evidence that Jones sold a handgun on that day.

Jones was taken into custody along with Winston Thomlinson in the parking lot of Rockford Food and Liquor later in the day.

Under his Miranda Rights, Jones said he was just the “middleman” for the transaction and Thomlinson asked him to sell the firearm.

Jones has five prior weapons offense convictions as well as a warrant for trespassing.

Jones is being charged with felon possession of weapons, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, being an armed habitual criminal and unlawful delivery of a firearm to an addict.
