Ill. (WTVO) — Over 100 Illinois veterans landed in Chicago after a trip to Washington D.C. to honor them on August 28.

Family and friends lined up at the baggage claim area at Midway International Airport to welcome all the veterans back. Seven Korean War vets and 109 Vietnam War vets spent a day touring the national memorials in D.C.

The all-expense paid trip is meant to show appreciation to the veterans and recognize them for their service.

“I’m so pleased and honored that everybody remembers we’re still here and we love our country and there’s nothing we wouldn’t do and what we have done. I would do it all over again,” said Korean War Veteran James Porter.

More than 11,000 veterans have made the honor flight trip.
