ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rock River Valley Blood Center says donations are lagging behind demand and is offering free insulated travel mugs to encourage residents to give.

According to the Blood Center, it needs 800 donations a week to keep up with demand, but last month it only received 300 donations, one of the lowest amounts ever.

So, through September 7th, donors will receive a free drinking mug and be entered into a monthly drawing.

“Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer, and a lot of people are traveling this weekend. There could be more significant traumas with more people on the road. So we just want to make sure that we have a well-stocked blood supply for patients,” said RRVBC CEO Lisa Entrikin.

Donors are encouraged to make an appointment through the blood center’s website , on the myRRVBC app, or by calling 815-965-8751. Walk-ins will also be accepted.
