HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 23200 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) around 1:40 a.m. today. The identity of the deceased 33-year-old male is pending verification by Montgomery County Forensic Services. According to the Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division, a silver Hyundai Sonata and a silver Hyundai Genesis were involved in a head-on collision on the Eastex Freeway service road. Paramedics pronounced the driver of the Sonata deceased at the scene, while the 61-year-old male driver of the Genesis was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

DEL RIO, Texas — A Mexican national was sentenced to 235 months in federal prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. According to court documents, Braulio Reyes, a 27-year-old from Agujita, Coahuila, Mexico, attempted to enter the United States through the Eagle Pass Port of Entry pedestrian lane on November 12, 2020. Customs and Border Protection Officers discovered several packages strapped to Reyes' waist containing 3.45 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride with a purity level of 100%.
Odessa man sentenced to 30 years for carjacking and firearm discharge
MIDLAND, Texas — An Odessa man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for carjacking and discharging a firearm during a violent crime. Isaac Ramirez Carrasco, 38, carjacked a couple on January 30 by pointing a shotgun at the driver and ordering both occupants out of their vehicle, according to court documents. When the victim did not initially comply, Carrasco fired the shotgun into the air before returning his aim to the victim. The couple eventually exited the truck, and Carrasco drove away in it. Odessa Police tracked the truck to a nearby residence, where they found Carrasco and the shotgun.

WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas — A wanted fugitive from Garland was arrested without incident on July 9, 2024, following a felony traffic stop by the White Settlement Police Department.The arrest occurred on S. Las Vegas Trail after a Flock safety alert enabled officers from both the White Settlement Police Department and the Fort Worth Police Department to intercept the suspect. Sgt. Wylie police arrest Mesquite man in shooting investigation
WYLIE, Texas — Wylie police have arrested a Mesquite man in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on June 25.On June 25 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Wylie Police responded to the 100 block of S. Ballard Ave after receiving a report of shots fired at a vehicle. The reporting party stated that another vehicle fired shots at their car while they were traveling. Officers were unable to locate the suspect at the time of the incident.Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division worked diligently on the case and developed probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant. On July 10, investigators arrested 65-year-old Darvin Hill, of Mesquite, on a charge of Deadly Conduct-Discharge a Firearm. Hill was taken into custody without incident, according to a press release from the Wylie Police Department.The shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute that began in a neighboring jurisdiction and culminated in the shooting in Wylie, the press release stated.

ROCKWALL, Texas — The Rockwall Police Department has announced the passing of retired Public Safety Officer John Krodel.Throughout Krodel's 14 years of service in Rockwall, he contributed in various capacities, including managing the department's fleet, assisting at crime scenes, transporting evidence to labs, and taking walk-in reports. Krodel's law enforcement career began in 1972 as a jailer with the Dallas Police Department. He held several roles, including motorcycle officer, building security officer, airport police officer at Dallas Love Field, DPD officer policing the housing projects, and crime scene technician in the crime scene response unit. In total, he dedicated over 46 years to serving the citizens of Texas in various law enforcement capacities."Thank you for your dedication and service, John. Rest in peace!" stated the department.
Lufkin police identified deceased male in death investigation where aggressive dogs were shot, killed
LUFKIN, Texas — The deceased man discovered last week in the 100 block of Collins Street has been identified as David Meinerding, 67, of Lufkin. Lufkin Police officers encountered aggressive dogs near Meinerding's body upon arrival at the scene around 5:15 a.m. on July 2. Due to an officer being bitten, two of the dogs had to be dispatched. The completion of Meinerding's autopsy will clarify any potential involvement the dogs had in his death. While the incident remains under investigation, foul play is not suspected, according to a press release from the Lufkin Police Department.

Texas mother charged with murder after allegedly administering methadone to 11-year-old daughter
DENISON, Texas — A Denison woman has been arrested for murder after police say she intentionally administered methadone to her 11-year-old daughter, leading to the child's death.On December 25, 2021, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Denison Police and EMS responded to the 500 block of West Hull Street for a report of an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, 11-year-old Harper Butler was found not breathing and without a pulse. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.Initially, the mother, 39-year-old Candice Cooper, stated that her daughter had accidentally ingested her prescribed methadone. However, in June 2024, detectives received further information indicating that Cooper had intentionally administered the methadone to her child. During a subsequent interview, Cooper confessed to knowingly dosing her daughter with methadone, aware of the potential health ramifications.Following this new information, the Dallas Medical Examiner ruled the child's death as a homicide. On July 11, 2024, Denison Police detectives secured a warrant for Cooper's arrest. She was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. Cooper was transported to the Grayson County Jail and booked with a one million dollar bond, according to the Denison Police Department.
