CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A Nueces County Sheriff's Office deputy fired his weapon in self-defense after a driver brandished a firearm during a traffic stop on the 2600 block of Niagara.The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. today, according to the Nueces County Sheriff's Office. The suspect fled the scene, and the condition of the suspect is currently unknown. No officers were injured in the incident.Authorities are urging the public to be on the lookout for a grey truck with Texas plate MXS8566. Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to call 911 immediately.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - A silver Chevy Malibu crashed into the Comal River after a high-speed chase through Landa Park on Thursday morning, according to the New Braunfels Police Department.At approximately 10 a.m. on July 25, 2024, officers responded to reports of a speeding vehicle in Landa Park. The vehicle, driven by Jaime Humberto Cruz Rodriguez, was located near Playground Drive but sped off as officers approached. The chase ended when the car crashed on Landa Park Drive, with its front end on the embankment and the back end in the water.Cruz Rodriguez was non-compliant with officers' commands and continued attempting to drive away. Officers entered the water, removed him from the driver's seat, and placed him under arrest. Upon arrival at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels, Cruz Rodriguez attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by officers.Once cleared from the hospital, Cruz Rodriguez was transported to the Comal County Jail and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Evading Arrest, and Escape From Custody, according to the New Braunfels Police Department.

Houston tax preparer admits to filing false returns, faces prison time
HOUSTON, Texas - A tax preparer has admitted to aiding or assisting in the preparation of a false 2017 income tax return, announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Christopher J. Guevara, who owned and operated Chris Tax Service in Houston from at least 2018 to 2020, admitted to placing false Schedule A deductions, residential energy credits, and Schedule C businesses on the returns he prepared, generating larger refunds to which his clients were not entitled. He also admitted to making money through preparation fees. Guevara admitted to placing $26,857 in false business losses on the 2017 Schedule C, resulting in a tax loss to the United States of approximately $13,390. He took responsibility for $123,458 in losses to the IRS and has agreed to pay that amount in restitution. U.S. District Judge Alfred H. Bennett will impose sentencing on Oct. 31. At that time, Guevara faces up to three years in prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine. He was permitted to remain on bond pending sentencing. HOUSTON, Texas - A traffic stop for a missing front license plate led to the arrest of a driver for unlawfully carrying a weapon, according to the Harris County Constable Pct. 3.Traffic Division Deputies stopped a KIA at the 770 block of Decker Drive and identified the driver as Anthony Rowell. Deputies say they detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. For officer safety, Rowell was detained, and a narcotics investigation was conducted. SPRING, Texas - Three individuals were arrested early on July 24, 2024, after a suspicious vehicle call led to the discovery of stolen mail and identifying information.Constable Ryan Gable's patrol deputies responded to the call in the 28400 block of Woodson's Lake Drive, where they detained the occupants of a maroon Honda Accord.
