New fire at Keys Road will continue to burn for the next few days, officials say
YAKIMA, Wash. - A new fire at Yakima Sportsman State Park will continue to burn for a few days, according to Yakima Suncomm. Fire crews responded to the fire on Keys Road late Wednesday night and returned on Tuesday, July 4. According to a Yakima Valley Emergency Management Facebook post, the 25-acre fire did not threaten homes, but Sportsman State Park was closed to the public.

Supreme Court Ruling Paves Way for Yakima to Address Homelessness
The Yakima City Council is expected to talk about homelessness this month after the U.S. Supreme court released a ruling that says it's okay for cities to ban people from sleeping or living in public places.The court, in a 6-3 decision, reversed a previous ruling which found banning people from sleeping in outdoor public spaces is a violation of the 8th amendment. The original ruling was made by an appeals court in San Francisco.

18+ pounds of cocaine mixed with fentanyl seized during traffic stop on I-70
Law enforcement seized 18 pounds of cocaine mixed with fentanyl along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition during a traffic stop on I-70 near Gypsum. The Gore Range Narcotic Interdiction Team made the stop about 1 p.m. on June 19. During the traffic stop, the G.R.A.N.I.T.E. task force observed criminal activity and both the driver and passenger consented to a vehicle search. That search turned up 500 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 3 weapon magazines, and 4 cellphones. They also discovered seven packages weighing over 18 pounds. Investigators said presumptive tests indicated that each package contained cocaine and fentanyl. Both the driver and passenger were arrested on suspicion of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. The driver, Pedro David Corral Leon, 22 of Yakima, Washington remains in custody on a $100,000 bond. The passenger, Rafael Zazueta, 19 of Norfolk, Nebraska, remains in custody on a $100,000 bond.
