Country music has lost a pivotal figure with the passing of Pat Rolfe, one of the first women to head a major publishing company on Music Row. According to SOURCE , Rolfe passed away peacefully on May 24, surrounded by her family. She leaves behind a legacy of groundbreaking achievements and significant contributions to the country music industry.

    Early Career and Breakthroughs

Pat Rolfe's career began with a call from Lamar Fike, a key player in Elvis Presley's career and a member of his entourage who later became part of the publishing company Hill & Range. Fike's call set Rolfe on a path that would see her working with some of the biggest names in country music. From 1966 to 1972, she played a fundamental role in boosting the careers of artists such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Eddy Arnold, Hank Snow, Eddie Rabbit, Bill Monroe, and George Morgan.

In 1972, Rolfe became the General Manager of Hill & Range, a significant achievement in an industry predominantly led by men. When Chappell Music purchased Hill & Range in 1975, Rolfe stayed on board, continuing to make her mark. Under her leadership, Chappell Music was named ASCAP Publisher of the Year seven times, a testament to her exceptional management and vision.

    Leadership at ASCAP

After Warner Bros. Music acquired Chappell Music in 1987, Rolfe transitioned to ASCAP Nashville, where she was hired by Connie Bradley as Director of Membership Relations. Rolfe rose to the position of Vice President and remained with the organization until 2010. During her tenure, she was instrumental in bringing in writers such as Tony Mullins, Deryl Dodd, Trevor Rosen, Hillary Lindsey, Josh Kear, Chris Tompkins, Michael Knox, Gerry House, Tim Ryan, Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley, and Wynonna Judd. Her ability to identify and nurture talent helped shape the careers of many of country music’s biggest stars.

    Co-founding SOURCE

In 1991, Rolfe, along with Music Row leaders Judy Harris and Sheila Shipley Biddy, co-founded SOURCE. This organization focused on fostering relationships and creating opportunities for women in the entertainment industry. SOURCE has grown to become the longest-running organization for women in the music industry in Nashville, serving as a crucial support system and networking platform for women in the business.

    Legacy and Final Days

Beyond her professional achievements, Rolfe was also known for her philanthropic efforts. She co-founded the Music Row Ladies Golf Tournament, which raises money for charity each year.

She is survived by her husband Mack; sons John, Jim, and Dick; and many grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced soon, allowing artists and fans alike to honor her remarkable life and legacy.

The country music industry mourns the loss of Pat Rolfe, a trailblazing icon whose impact will be felt for generations to come.
