Former Islanders Head Coach Barry Trotz Hires Former Islanders Player As Assistant

A former New York Islanders player will be joining their former head coach in the Music City.

Former center Darby Hendrickson, who played 16 games for the Islanders during the 1995-1996 season, was hired by the Nashville Predators on Friday, general manager Barry Trotz announced.

Hendrickson tallied a goal and four assists after being acquired in the Wendell Clark-Kenny Jonsson deal from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He was dealt back to Toronto prior to the 1996-1997 season.

In 518 NHL games, he totaled 65 goals and 64 assists for 129 points. After his playing days, he joined the Minnesota Wild’s coaching staff, where he stuck for 14 seasons.

Trotz just finished up his first season as a general manager, acquiring former Islanders Anthony Beauvillier ahead of the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, most recently sending Ryan McDonagh back to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Up next for Trotz is figuring out what he's going to do with his goalie, Jusse Saros.
