Roster changes aren’t the only shakeup this offseason for the Golden State Warriors.

The organization is making changes to its coaching staff with the addition of former Vanderbilt University men’s basketball coach Jerry Stackhouse.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday that Stackhouse will be serving as an assistant to the head coach, Steve Kerr. Former Portland Trailblazers coach Terry Stotts is expected to join the staff as the lead assistant coach.

Stackhouse served as Vanderbilt’s coach from 2019-24 and was fired in March. During his five seasons, Stackhouse compiled a 70-92 record and finished with a losing record in three of those five seasons. The Commodores finished 9-23 in 2023-24 and lost in the first round of the SEC Tournament to Arkansas.

His best season with Vanderbilt was 2022-23, when the Commodores finished 22-15 and Stackhouse won SEC Coach of the Year honors.

Stackhouse has NBA experience as a coach and a player. After a successful college career at UNC, he was the No. 3 overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1995 NBA draft. He averaged 16.9 points throughout his time in the NBA and retired in 2013.

In 2015, he was an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors and was later named head coach for the Raptors 905, the organization's G-League team. He served as an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzles in 2018.

This past season, the Warriors finished 10th in the West and missed the playoffs after losing to the Sacramento Kings in a play-in game. Star guard Klay Thompson and veteran Chris Paul are among the players who will not return to the team, which won four NBA championships between 2015 and 2022.
