Vanderbilt baseball once again had several players selected in the 2024 MLB Draft.

The Commodores have had at least four players get drafted and signed every season since 2007. That trend continued with seven Vanderbilt players getting selected, five pitchers and two position players. All seven are expected to sign with the teams that chose them. One signee, Owen Hall, was also drafted.

Seven drafted players was tied for eighth among Division I schools.

All players drafted in the top 10 rounds are expected to sign. Players who do not get drafted still have the option of signing undrafted free agent deals. Those out of eligibility can sign until the start of the 2025 draft, while those who still have eligibility can sign up until the start of school Aug. 21, but they cannot sign for more than $150,000 unless the team signing them has bonus pool money left over from the draft.

Vanderbilt did not have a player selected in the first round for the first time since 2018 and only the second time since 2013.

Notable players who did not get selected included Jonathan Vastine, Matthew Polk, Sawyer Hawks, Chris Maldonado, Ryan Ginther and Jacob Humphrey. Polk already announced Tuesday his intentions to return for his senior year.

Here are the Commodores players and signees who were selected:

Vanderbilt baseball players selected in 2024 MLB Draft

    RHP Bryce Cunningahm

Drafted: Second round, 53rd overall, New York Yankees

    Slot value: $1,721,200

    Cunningham had a breakout junior season in 2024 with a 4.36 ERA, 96 strikeouts and 34 walks in a team-leading 84⅔ innings.

He can run his fastball into the mid-90s and also has a strong changeup as well with experience as a Friday night starter in the SEC. He will join former teammate Spencer Jones, a first-round pick in 2022, in the Yankees' system.

    LHP Carter Holton

Drafted: Second round, 62nd overall, Atlanta Braves

    Slot value: $1,385,000

Holton had a career 4.10 ERA across 41 starts in his career at Vanderbilt, but his run prevention got worse each year as he dealt with injuries and inconsistency. Regardless, he's a left-hander who can touch 96 mph with his fastball and at his best, he looked like one of the top arms in the SEC. The native of Guyton, Ga., will head to his hometown team in the Braves.

    RHP Greysen Carter

Drafted: Fifth round, 152nd overall, New York Yankees

    Slot value: $440,100

Carter is best known for his exceptional fastball velocity, which has touched as high as 103 mph. He's not a finished product, though, as he had a career 5.62 ERA with the Commodores and 69 walks in 73⅔ innings. He'll join teammate Cunningham in New York.

    RHP Andrew Dutkanych IV

Drafted: Seventh round, 201st overall, St. Louis Cardinals

    Slot value: $288,700

Dutkanych was a high-profile prospect in the 2022 draft who was seen by some as the best player to go to school that year. But he pitched just 17 innings in two years and suffered two season-ending injuries, including Tommy John surgery in March. He could touch 97 with his fastball and showed a strong slider when healthy. A draft-eligible sophomore, Dutkanych is likely to sign as he would have likely missed most or all of 2025 due to injury had he returned.

    INF Davis Diaz

    Drafted: 8th round, 226th overall

    Slot value: $237,400

Diaz was first drafted in the 12th round of the 2021 MLB Draft but opted to come to school. He showed strong defense at third base but hit just .243 with 18 home runs in three seasons. Diaz was a two-time All-Star in the Cape Cod League.

    LHP Devin Futrell

    Drafted: 10th round, 297th overall

    Slot value: $182,800

Futrell was a three-year starter at Vanderbilt who put up a 3.92 ERA in 42 career starts. The lefty was one of the SEC's premier strike-throwers with just 43 walks in 195⅓ career innings and was a Second Team All-SEC selection in 2023, but his fastball only tops out at 92 and he missed some time in 2024 with injury.

    C Alan Espinal

    Drafted: 11th round, 318th overall

    Slot value: $150,000

After playing sparingly in his first two years at Vanderbilt, Espinal was a part-time starter as a junior and the full-time starter as a senior. In 2024, Espinal hit .289 with 15 doubles and 13 home runs. But he also struck out 79 times in 252 plate appearances. He is known as a strong defensive catcher.

    RHP Owen Hall

Drafted: Second round, 49th overall, Detroit Tigers

    Slot value: $1,893,700

Hall was Vanderbilt's top recruit in the 2024 class, ranked No. 66 by Perfect Game. The native of Edmond, Okla., displays a fastball that can get up to 97 mph.
