Seeing a lot of apologies going around after this weekend. Over the past couple of days, there have been way too many examples of people who just couldn't help themselves but to make disgusting comments about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Too many people let their politics get in the way of their humanity and ended up making comments online that have real-world consequences. And one of whose people who couldn't help but make a disgusting comment was Nashville music venue owner Chark Kinsolving. Kinsolving is a longtime owner of venues in Nashville, and was a co-owner of the popular Mercy Lounge, which shut down in 2022 after the building was sold for redevelopment. He also opened Eastside Bowl in 2021, a popular bowling alley, entertainment center and music venue which includes "Chark's Laneside Diner" and multiple bars that also serve as concert venues. Well apparently Kinsolving was disappointed that the assassination attempt on President Trump failed, taking to Facebook after the shooting to say that we were
"inches away from freedom," referring to the bullet that nicked Trump's ear after he turned his head at the last second. https://twitter.com/SarahisCensored/status/1812729710293492210 Kinsolving has since deleted his Facebook page, but not before screenshots of the post began circulating on Twitter, leading for many to call for boycotts of the business. And last night, Kinsolving issued an apology on the Eastside Bowl social media accounts, saying that his comments were "impulsive and thoughtless." "I would like to offer my apologies to those that I have offended by my ill-conceived post to Facebook on Saturday, July 13. I am not prolific on social media and rarely make posts at all. I made an impulsive and thoughtless comment at the spur of the moment. I then took it down less than an hour later. I never intended to advocate violence or to advocate for violence. That's not where my heart has even been.
In my past and present personal and business life I have always chosen to unite people through music and bring people together, not to divide. The people who truly know me know this for sure. In this day and age of constant memes and political division, I was horrified to realize that I had somehow added fuel to the fire. This was never my intention. I humbly ask for those I have offended to accept my sincere apology and to please remain peaceful with one another. Thank you. Chark Kinsolving"
The venue disabled comments on their social media accounts, so who knows how much backlash they were getting, but the whole thing just goes to show the danger of making emotional posts on social media and the real-world consequences that can come from your online behavior.
