NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The dangerous heat is winding down and will be replaced by cooler temperatures for Middle Tennessee. This relief will also bring thunderstorms, some of which could be strong tonight and early Wednesday.
Wednesday morning, a Flash Flood Warning was issued for Muhlenberg County, KY for heavy rainfall. Radar estimates were 3-5 inches with ground confirmation up to 5 inches. This warning was canceled before 7 AM. Greenville, Kentucky 911 dispatchers reported high water covering some roads.
While there is no defined risk of severe weather today in our region, a few strong storms remain possible. This could lead to heavy rain, gusty winds, small hail.
However, heavy rain could lead to some flooding concerns. We are in a Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 4) for excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding.
Wednesday’s focus is less on the heat and more on the rain/storm coverage.
This morning
Rain & storms are continuing along the TN/KY line and northward, moving east. This should exit the region by 9 AM.
This afternoon
During the day Wednesday, with daytime heating, storms will increase in coverage. At this time, our area is not under a severe outlook, but we could see damaging wind gusts as a concern, along with brief heavy rainfall. Late this evening, a few more showers and storms may form as the actual cold front moves through.
Thursday
Morning rain and storms decrease, with only a few showers leftover for the afternoon.
Rain chances continue on Thursday with cooler temperatures. Looking at the next 6-10 days, we could remain below average on temperatures and above average on rainfall. This is a welcomed sight as drought conditions have been worsening in the region.
