NFL analyst suggests New York Giants as trade partner for reclamation QB

It's no secret the New York Giants have a major question mark at quarterback entering training camp.

With Daniel Jones recovering from a torn ACL that ended his 2023 season after seven games, his future as the starter remains in question following the 2024 campaign.

So while the Giants work to figure out if Jones is the starter of the future, one NFL analyst believes they should make a trade for an embattled quarterback going into his third season.

In naming potential trade partners for Tennessee Titans quarterback Malik Willis, Cory Woodroof of For The Win suggested the Giants should be on that shortlist.

"Another franchise could flip a late draft pick Tennessee’s way and see if they could get the best out of Willis. Perhaps a change of scenery would help unlock more of the player we saw at Liberty and net the Titans draft compensation," Woodroof wrote.

Willis may have been a darling leading up to the 2022 draft, but he's done nothing since then to show improvement as a potential starter in the NFL.

In three starts during his rookie season, Willis completed 50.8% of his passes for 276 yards, no touchdowns, three interceptions and a 42.8 passer rating. He added 27 rushing attempts for 123 yards and one rushing touchdown.

Reclamation projects such as Willis don't work out all that often and what he put on tape during his rookie season showed a quarterback who has a lot of work to do.

Maybe he could give Tommy DeVito a push for the QB3 role, but DeVito already has a year of being in Brian Daboll's offense under his belt, and he proved to be much more competent in a spot starter role.

Jones is the starter as long as he's healthy with Drew Lock slotting in as the backup for 2024. DeVito is safely entrenched in the QB3 role barring a massive collapse during training camp.

If general manager Joe Schoen flipped a late-round pick for Willis, it's a move that would be highly questionable.
