Tennessee Titans GM Ran Carthon denies Derrick Henry was close to being traded

Tennessee Titans general manage Ran Carthon denied recent rumors that the team had been close to trading star running back Derrick Henry last season.

"No, we never agreed with anybody to do anything," Carthon said Tuesday during the first news conference of training camp, when asked about the trade details described in a report by The Athletic .

In the report, Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said there was a trade in place that would have sent Henry to Baltimore in exchange for a fourth-round pick — which would become a third-round pick if certain conditions were met.

The report suggested that Carthon was on board with the trade, but "others in the Titans hierarchy" nixed the deal.

“No, I wasn’t, I don’t know where that came from," Carthon said.

"We had multiple teams call about Derrick, offer something that wasn’t worth even considering. I communicated that with Derrick during that time," he added.

Carthon clarified that while the Titans received many calls about Henry, a trade was never close.

"No, we never agreed with anybody to do anything," he said.

Henry, the Titans' leading rusher for eight seasons (2016-2023), signed a two-year deal with the Ravens as a free agent on March 12. He has rushed for 9,502 yards and 90 touchdowns since being drafted in the second round in 2016 out of Alabama.
