Officers were called to Vintage Century Farms Apartments after receiving reports of arguing, screaming and gunshots heard outside one of the apartment units, according to Metro police. Officers found the Smiths dead when they arrived.

Investigators determined Theodore Smith had gotten dressed to go to his job as a hotel security guard and asked his wife to step outside in the hallway to speak with her.

Arguing was heard and a witness was able to de-escalate the confrontation and convince Theodore Smith to briefly walk away, according to a press release.
