2026 Owasso (Okla.) four-star defensive lineman Tajh Overton got his first look at Tennessee this weekend for the Vols “Big Orange Kickoff” event. The Vols impressed him, and he detailed the stop with Volquest.

“I have heard a lot of great things about it,” Overton said of what made him want to make the trip from Oklahoma. “The coaches have told me a lot of great things about it, so I wanted to get up here and check it out for myself.”

There were several things that stood out to Overton during the visit.

“I got to feel out some of the plays, how they would play me, and got a chance to talk with the Head Coach,” Overton said of what stood out about the visit. “It was all great. I expected it to be good and learn some good stuff, but it was great actually. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. Not that I thought it would be, but it just exceeded expectations.”

The four-star was highly impressed with veteran defensive line coach Rodney Garner as well.

“He is a genius,” Overton said of Garner. “He has got great plays. He is going to put you in a great position to make a lot of plays, and I really like that.”

He also got a chance to connect with Tennessee Head Coach Josh Heupel during the visit.

“He has been around the Oklahoma-area, so we talked about that, and he was asking about how my season would be,” the four-star said of this. “He just told me this was a great place for me.”

So coming out of the weekend, how did the Vols do?

“It helped them a lot,” he said of the visit. “They definitely moved up. I am glad I got to see it all.”

Overton said he plans to cut his top schools list down to at least ten in the near future, and he says the Vols did enough this weekend to make that initial cut. As he attacks his recruitment, he knows what will be important to him during the process.

“I am looking for a place that is going to put me in the best spot to be successful on and off the field,” Overton said of this.
