Krista and Kendra Slaubaugh of Tigirlily Gold stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to talk about their new album, the full circle moment they had with Dierks Bentley and more!

Blonde , Tigirlily Gold’s debut album, is out now and was three years in the making, but they’ve been working towards it for 12 years. Originally from North Dakota, the two began performing when they were teenagers. They shared that there weren’t many people doing what they were doing in North Dakota, so it gave them a lot of opportunities to perform. Whenever an artist came to town and needed an opening act, or a local festival needed a performer, they were booked. Those opportunities gave them the confidence they needed to figure out who they were as a group and move to Nashville to chase their dreams. Once they came to town, one of their biggest breaks was getting a residency at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row bar in downtown Nashville. They played there for years until they got their record deal and recalled a cool full circle moment they had with Bentley. They were on the way home from the ACM Awards where they won New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year, and Bentley was on their flight. They told him how they used to play at his bar and that it was an amazing full circle moment that they went from playing Whiskey Row to winning their first ACM Award.

When they made their ACM debut, the realization of how big of a moment it was didn’t set in until they were backstage and saw the list of performers. Their name was in between Kelsea Ballerini and Cody Johnson, and they knew they were the least known act that would be on the stage that night, but they rose to the opportunity. They practiced so many times that if they messed up it wouldn’t have been from lack of preparation. During the last 20 seconds of the song, Kendra only sings, and she looked over at Krista who got emotional and the two shared a moment together that they’ll never forget.

They both can feel their success. They are getting to do everything they’ve always dreamed of and having cool opportunities but are still renting a car to drive 10 hours to play a show. They do feel like their career is starting to take off, but they still live very normal lives when they are home. When they were in High School, they were known as the singing sisters. They recently went back to their hometown, Hazen, North Dakota, to play a show and their whole town showed up. It was emotional for them because so many of the people in the crowd watched them grow up and heard them when they were just playing in basements, so they couldn’t be more grateful for their support throughout the years.

A common misconception the two get is that they are twins, which they are not and are two years apart in age. They shared some of their biggest moments from the last few years including their National TV debut on The Today Show. They recalled how early they had to get there for hair and makeup, but that adrenalin got them through it. They also reflected on when Ashley McBryde invited them to make their Grand Ole Opry debut that happened on May 13th, 2023, and how that was a moment they had been dreaming about since their parents drove them 22 hours to go see a show at the Opry 10 years ago. Now, they have played it 13 times.

Their new album, Blonde , is 10 songs that they call “Little pieces of Tigirlily Gold.” Since they started working on it three years ago, they both have gone through so many different experiences, but feel like these songs still hold true to who they are. One of the songs on the record is a cover of Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love,” which was a staple song they’d perform while on Broadway. They do their own unique version of it, and it became such a fan favorite that they recorded it to be the final song on the project. Their advice for people who want to work with their family is to not have an ego and really lean on each other's strengths. Figure out your weaknesses and strengths and recognize you’re both good at different things. Their goal for this time next year is to have their own tour bus!

While in studio, they performed “I Tried A Ring On.”
