NASHVILLE - Former Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Denico Autry has been suspended by the NFL for violating the league's performance enhancing substance policy.

Autry signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the rival Houston Texans in free agency after recording a career-high 11.5 sacks for Tennessee in 2023. But the 34-year-old is now going to miss six games to open the season.

"Over the course of my ten-year NFL career, I have never engaged in the use of performance enhancing drugs," Autry said in a released statement.

Autry claims he "discovered that a pharmacy to which my doctors submitted a prescription for a different medication had, whether intentional, recklessly, or negligently, included a banned substance."

While Autry has accepted the NFL's six-game punishment, he plans to explore his legal options regarding the incident.  It's a big loss for the Texans' defensive front and a potential problem for an aging defender to be away from the team facility for an extended period of time.
