Jack White recently pulled off arguably the most anticlimactic album drop in history. The former White Stripes frontman secretly slipped an unbranded vinyl into customers’ bags at his Third Man Records locations in Nashville, Detroit, and London. Living up to his reputation as “the savviest rock star of our time,” White has now unveiled new details about his sixth solo album, aptly titled No Name.

Jack White Reveals Details About New Album

On Saturday (July 27), Jack White took the stage at the American Legion Post 82 bar in Nashville. The show—which the “Icky Thump” rocker announced just two days in advance—aimed to raise money for a new sound system at the venue.

Then, White shocked the audience by premiering six songs from No Name, which he covertly dropped July 19. “Losing my mind over Jack White releasing new music for free and unannounced… Except it was only pressed on vinyl,” wrote one X/Twitter user. “And you had to shop at one of his stores in person to get it.”

Additionally, White promised “something special for you at that merch table on your way out.” According to Reddit, that surprise turned out to be final copies of the No Name LP on blue vinyl. The album is 13 tracks long and dedicated to a handful of people with silly names, like Mia Goth and Dick Trickle.

We still don’t have an official release date for No Name. But in the meantime, the Third Man Instagram account has offered up these two words of advice: “Rip it.”

“Today you have proven that the quiet rumblings of something mysterious can grow into the beautiful experience of a community sharing the excitement and energy of music & art,” the record company wrote in a July 19 Instagram post. “See a recap of how the day went in our Instagram stories.. and always stayed tuned.”

Conan O’Brien Welcomes Surprise Guest At Newport Show

Conan O’Brien (yes, the talk show host) played a 13-song setlist at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island Sunday (July 28.) And guests were shocked when he invited longtime friend Jack White onto the stage for a duet of The White Stripes’ “We’re Going To Be Friends.”

The pair then took things up a notch with their rendition of Eddie Cochran’s “Twenty Flight Rock.”
