Brian Callahan reacts after Titans roster takes a big loss in training camp

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Titans have taken a few big hits recently, losing players to both injury and suspension just one week into training camp.
Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a knee strain suffered in practice on Wednesday. The hope is that Hopkins will be back for the regular season opener against the Chicago Bears, but even if he is not, Tennessee has enough depth at wide receiver to tread water while Hopkins is away.
The news of Key's suspension dropped earlier this week. It was something the Titans knew about prior to the news being made public. Key is allowed to go through training camp and the preseason with his team , but once the regular season begins, he will not be allowed at the team facility until the conclusion of his suspension.
Without Key, the Titans are thin at outside linebacker. Rashad Weaver is currently projected to start opposite of Harold Landry III on the edge, but it's really the depth where Tennessee will have concerns.
After Landry and Weaver, the Titans do no have an outside linebacker on their roster that has recorded an NFL sack in the last five years...that's alarming. Head coach Brian Callahan was asked earlier this week if his team has the resources at edge rusher to manage while Key is away and the first-year head coach struggled to find the answers.
"I don't know. It's not something that you wanted to hear. We don't really have a choice," said Callahan. "We got to go play football with who we have and if we can find someone else, we will. And if we can't, then we've got to play with what we have. So, that's sort of where we're at."
The current free agent pool does not offer much as far as edge defenders are concerned. Tyus Bowser, Yannick Ngakoue, and Carl Lawson are some of the more recognizable names and candidates to land with Tennessee, but even those veterans have something to prove at this stage in their career.
Replicating Key's production is going to be difficult. Replicating his speed might be even harder.
