Tyjae Spears Looks To Win The RB1 Job In Tennessee

In Tyjae Spears’ rookie season, he may not have been a top name, but he showed enough to prove that he is an NFL-caliber player. He had 100 carries for 453 yards while bringing in two TDs. 100 carries isn’t a super exciting number, but last season, Derrick Henry took a majority of the touches, and he is no longer with the Titans.

The team brought in Tony Pollard, who will keep Spears from being an absolute workhorse. Pollard is no Derrick Henry, though, so it would be no surprise if Spears managed to add on 50 more carries in 2024. In 2023, Spears did finish with 52 catches for 385 receiving yards (7.4 yards per reception), which was third on the entire Titans roster. Pollard could potentially take away some of those catches, but it should not be an alarming difference for Spears.

The Titans were a struggling offense in 2023, but Spears still managed to take advantage of the opportunities given to him. He finished the season with five games and over 13 fantasy points. The team may continue to show some struggles, potentially limiting the amount of red zone snaps Spears (or any RB) will receive. The Titans have also been a heavy running team in the past years, but the scheme could change under new Head Coach Brian Callahan.

However, if the unproven passing game struggles early on, the team may rely again heavily on the running game. Spears finished as RB 34 in 2023, and with an expected increase in workload, he should easily top those numbers.

Our consensus projections for Spears in the 2024 season are 180 carries for 921 yards and 7 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 36 receptions for 282 yards and 1 touchdown.
